JAKARTA – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Board (BMKG) has predicted that the transition from dry season to rainy season will only occur in November, while the El Nino phenomenon will reach its peak by the end of December this year.

BMKG Chairperson Dwikorita Karnawati said that based on latest data from satellite monitoring, the peak of dry season will occur in October, not September as was previously predicted.
“Based on the latest data, it seems that we won’t see any rain yet this month (October). Only then in November we’ll see a transition from dry season to rainy season,” Dwikorita said at the state palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, 03 October 2023.
According to Dwikorita, the monsoon winds will start entering Indonesia in November, and it will result in precipitations across the archipelago. “It means that the El Nino phenomenon will still linger, but its impacts will be mitigated by the rains. That way the dry season will be gradually receding,” she said.
She warned the general public to watch out their activities in such a way to avoid triggering fires as dry season will still continue until the end of this month.
“So, don’t try to intentionally or unintentionally ignite a fire, because then it will be difficult to put it out,” said Dwikorita. (*)
